springeq.jpg.txt Image by Jason McNabb Hough - jhough@qualcmom.com Created with POVRay 2.2, Moray 1.53, and 3D Studio 3 Topic: Science - I asked a number of engineers here at Qualcomm to tell me the first image that came to mind when they hear the word science. The most interesting reply was "Schematic drawings by Leonardo DiVinci". I persued it and discovered this device that Leonardo devised centuries ago - its purpose is to Equalize the release of a spring. It's not exactly as his drawing shows it, I did take a few artistic liberties in creating it. I wanted to make the image look like the object was in a museum. Creation: The model took the majority of my time. Creating the spiral in the center proved nearly impossible with Moray, and way too time consuming. So, I grudgingly resorted to 3D Studio (I prefer to use all shareware normally). Everything else was done entirely with Moray and simple editing of POVray files. It took me total about 10 hours. Rendertime: 2 minutes 11 seconds - 6 Sun Sparc20's (4 processor's each) using pvmpov. POV files and related files availiable on request.
